Stephen Wood

Stephen Wood began painting in oils at age 15, studying with local artists and taking courses at the university in his hometown of Arlington, TX. By the time he was in high school he was winning local awards and selling his portraits and landscapes. He then attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia and graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1995. During this time, he also studied sculpture with Stephen Perkins and portrait painting with Cedric and Joanette Egeli, in Annapolis, MD. In the summers he worked sketching portraits and taking classes at the Cape Cod School of Art in Provincetown, MA. He painted a mural for the Armed Services in this period, still on display at Fort Dix, N.J.


He opened his studio and gallery in the art colony town of Rockport, MA, and over the next few years sketched hundreds of portraits in pastel and numerous oil portraits and landscapes. He also began traveling worldwide for commissions, working all over the US, Europe, Russia, and Japan. He has had numerous solo exhibitions, including one in Russia, and his work hangs in numerous private homes, institutions, corporations, and universities. 


He lives in Manchester-by-the-Sea, MA, and is a member of the Rockport Art Association. Also, an established composer of classical music, to learn about his musical career visit stephenwoodcomposer.com
